“Worship Invisible Dreams” – by Brian Heasley

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

brianheasleybw.jpgFriend Brian is writing some interesting stuff he’s entitled “Worship Invisible Dreams“. Commentary about traditional worship services, congregational life and small communities that will surely lead to more comments on his blog. I encourage you to go check it (and him) out.

And if you wanna come to Spain and serve Jesus in a significant place with wonderful people, consider Ibiza.

If I were a theologian, I would be…

Found this quiz on Andrew Jones’s blog this morning. It was recommended to him by Andrew Kenny.

Although I scored as Jurgen Moltmann, I guess I could equally be Anselm of Canterbury.

“You scored as Jürgen Moltmann. The problem of evil is central to your thought, and only a crucified God can show that God is not indifferent to human suffering. Christian discipleship means identifying with suffering but also anticipating the new creation of all things that God will bring about.”

Update from the weekend

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys. We really appreciated the prayers.

The weekend went really well. I believe that everyone that came was pleased that they had come and were happy with the content, rhythm and friendship we had.

We had a session on Saturday Morning on the Father Heart of God which I think went well. We had a lot of discussion on a pretty wide variety of biblical passages from both the Old and New testaments. I’m not sure that the reality of the love of the Father really sank in with anyone, but I do think that we opened the door for further exploration and processing.

That afternoon/night we ended up having one of the best sessions that I think we have ever had as a community.

Away this weekend…

Friday, May 19th, 2006

We are spending a weekend away with our little budding community. We’ll be dialoguing about the Holy Spirit and Father God. Heavy subjects that probably need more time than we have for them.

There will be at least 11 of us, one person that is coming has not yet decided to follow Jesus. You could pray for him and us. I am really hoping that the dialogue will be open and honest: with each other, with ourselves and with God.

I’ll report back on Monday or Tuesday to tell you all how it went.

The BBC on Bonhoeffer

Friday, April 14th, 2006

bonhoeffer.jpgScanning the BBC News website today, I saw a peculiar headline: “How a pacifist decided whether it was right to kill Hitler“. Only one semi-prominent pacifist that I know of had ever written on the subject: Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I was surprised to find that the article was, in fact, about Bonhoeffer. Probably one of the most signficant theologians of the 20th century even though most Christians are more likely to have heard of Max Lucado rather than Bonhoeffer (shudder). Check out the article, buy yourself Cost of Discipleship and Living Together.

Spirituality, Religion and Spain

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

catedralsantiago.jpgI’ve been having a very brief (considering the vastness of the topic) cyber/bloggo/conversation about Spirituality, Religion and Spain with two americans living up in Santiago de Compostela. I won’t bother cutting and pasting the comments here, just check out Jacob’s and Matt’s blogs. They are involved in a coffee shop project called Terra Nova in Santiago de Compostela.

Interesting stuff if you are interested in these topics. It is a conversation that I get the feeling has only just begun and will hopefully continue when these two come down for a visit later this month. Still coming guys? We have a place for you to stay.
