Some good news on Baby David…

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

We got this news from Jesús yesterday. Good to hear about some progress!

New home today. We’ve been moved to the Pediatric ICU and out of the Newborn ICU. He has new doctors and nurses and luckily for him there’s only 3 kids in there so he’ll be watched more closely. The goal for his new doctor right now is to get him completely past the infection and off IV and then they’ll evaluate and see what happens. He’s eating 30ml today, and he’s off oxygen, although he was having a hard time breathing when we were there because of all his secretions. This new ICU has different rules and visiting hours but it seems more flexible than the other. The visits are 30min 3 times a day, and 1hr 1 once a day. They seemed open to Rach coming to feed him also in a few days when he can be held.

Here is the latest from the Repetto family.

Ok, this is a bit like a roller coster… Today he’s having a hard time breathing. We were actually told “if he makes it out of this one” like 5 times. The liquid in his lungs is making it difficult for him to breath even despite the machine. And there’s nothing else they can do since more pressure would put his lungs at risk because of the liquid. They are medicating him with something to liquify the liquid in his lungs and that actually seems to be working. So he’s got double pneumonia and sepsis. The doctors are convinced he had both problems an infection which led him to breath in liquid in both lungs, mostly on the right one. All that said when we left he was breathing pretty good, which is the key right now. He needs to be able to breath good while he fights the infection, since they can’t do any more for him right now.

Urgent Update on Baby David

davy.jpgThis just in from Jesús:

“SETBACK: Davy had a major aspiration into his right lung. We were called to see if they were allowed to treat him to keep fighting hard for him. Please Pray.”

David has been in the Neonatal ICU for over a month now. There has been progress, but also setbacks. Just yesterday he got his IV out because he had been eating so well. We don’t know what this new development means for his progress, but we do ask that you pray along with us.
