If I were a theologian, I would be…

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Found this quiz on Andrew Jones’s blog this morning. It was recommended to him by Andrew Kenny.

Although I scored as Jurgen Moltmann, I guess I could equally be Anselm of Canterbury.

“You scored as Jürgen Moltmann. The problem of evil is central to your thought, and only a crucified God can show that God is not indifferent to human suffering. Christian discipleship means identifying with suffering but also anticipating the new creation of all things that God will bring about.”

Sophia’s 2nd Birthday

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Last Friday, we celebrated Sophia’s second birthday. We’re at Jesus and Rachel (and Tiffany)’s house at the beach with the Bowles, so all the kiddos in our community were present.

I’ve edited the video down to just include the opening of grandparents’ gifts. Sophia didn’t quite understand the concept of opening gifts. She wanted to hold on to every gift she received, it was really cute. We had a hard time getting her to understand that we had a pile to get through and only so many hours in the day!

At any rate, here’s a five minute video of Sophia’s Birthday:

By the way, we are back from the beach next weekend. I think I’ll resume regular blogging then. Until then, more Sophia videos next weekend!

Sophia at the Beach

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Yesterday was the first day we got down to the beach this summer. Sophia wasn’t wild about getting in the water. I think the undertow (which is nothing like it is in California) might have scared her a little bit. Today was a lot better.

At any rate, enjoy:

Sophia Loves the Camera

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

I set up the camera on a tripod last week to see what Sophia would do when in front of it. I flipped the video viewfinder around so that Sophia could see herself on camera.

We think the results were pretty cute.

Oh, and sorry the video is a day late.

The Experiment Begins…

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

Inspired by what Samuel & Robyn have told us about Kelly and April’s success in Madrid, we’re giving monthly visits to the grocery store a try. The idea is that by doing one shopping load a month via the internet, we will save money by going to the store less often- if ever. Hopefully we’ll impulse buy less and I’ll save time by not having to go to the store 4 times a month. We’ll also save on delivery fees.

Today, we went and bought 200€ worth of groceries at our usual grocery store. I’ll probably spend most of the day organising things in the kitchen to get all this stuff crammed in. This month, we are going to keep track of all food we consume and by September we should have a good idea of what we need to get through a 30 day period. Then I’ll be able to go to our preferred online grocery store, enter in the months shopping, save it as a list and then make the purchase. After that, I’ll be able to slightly update the list every week and have the shopping done in about 15 minutes!

I hope it works.

Sophia at the “Park”

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

So it isn’t really a park. It’s a playground. But we call it a park and she knows what it is. We like this particular playground because Sophia has friends there and the floors are made of soft rubber, so injuries are less likely.

Without further ado:
