New Music Related Features

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Thanks to shmuel, I’ve got a nifty little list in the right sidebar titled “Recently Played Music” that lets all of you have a peak at what I’ve been listening to lately in iTunes and on my iPod. If you click on the list, it’ll take you to my last.fm user page where you can see my top artists and my top tracks.

I’ve taken to using emusic.com for downloading music legally. Most of the artists featured on the site are independent and unsigned, but there are quite a few on there that are well-known. The song files are DRM-free (DRM is the technology that limits the consumer’s ability to use songs as they wish in compliance with the law), legal and good quality. I recommend this avenue for acquiring new music over all others. The iTunes store is OK (I guess), but the DRM that the recording industry bigwigs force Apple to put on the song files infringes your legal right as a consumer to use those files as you see fit within the already existing legal frameworks. I find that highly annoying and have stopped using the iTunes store all together. And I couldn’t be happier with the result!

sophialooking.jpgClick on the photos over on the right hand side of the blog to see the latest photos of Sophia.

My flickr traffic will now promptly spike was all the grandparents race over to flickr.com to see the little cutie.

Note to self: When your mom gently suggests that photos of her granddaughter would be a good idea in a comment on your blog, you get it done ASAP!!

Back from the dead…

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

I haven’t disappeared off the face of the earth, just been very very busy.

Things I’ve been occupied with lately:

- travelling through various countries in Europe by car- twice.
- putting up with the fiasco that was London Heathrow Airport after the recent terrorist threat (that’s a whole ‘nother entry).
- trying to get caught up on my History degree studies after being 6 weeks behind- and succeeding!
- chilling at the beach with family and friends.
- surviving the heat in Sevilla in August- what a feat!
- taking care of Sophia and Heather as best I can.

I will retake the ‘ol blog when I have a bit more time. Sorry for the silence.

p.s.- Matt, I have not retired.
