Off to Germany tomorrow

Wednesday, July 28th, 2004

I’m off to Ehrfurt, Germany tomorrow. Gonna do a workshop on Missions at a summer gathering of the Jesus Freaks. Mostly it will be cool to see friends and share stories.

Hopefully I’ll post a bit more often when I get back.

Slowing Down…

Tuesday, July 20th, 2004

The short term team is gone, the reporters are gone, responsibility is lifting. Nice.

Just gonna slow down over the next couple of days. Still gotta catch up on studies (i am a week behind, again). Also preaching in the english speaking church this Sunday and then going to Germany at the end of the month to give a workshop at Freakstock on cross-cultural missions. But really, life is slowing down a bit.

I’ll try and get in this week and write more about the whole Rolling Stone connection. I guess a couple people found it interesting.

Feeling tired today

Saturday, July 17th, 2004

Thankfully it looks like a rest is coming after this weekend. I got up at the crack of dawn to take the short term team to the airport. Sad to see them go, wish I could have known them better.

Having journalists here has been a bit tougher than expected. We didn’t communicate expectations very well with them of what we thought they would want from us. I’ll be working together with these journalists in the future to make sure that we handle press better in the future. Thank God they are nice people and have done their best to understand a difficult situation. The sad part is that they probably haven’t gotten all the material that they needed. Have to pray for God to sort of take over for our shortcomings.

Headed to a pastor’s house tonight for dinner.

Hair raising couple of days…

It has been nonstop for me. Waking up, shower, out the door, driving to town from our place in the country, hooking up with reporters, liasing them with the team, trying to keep on top of pastoral needs, 24-7 International Base Meeting linkup via MSN that failed miserably, go get a hair cut, no wait can’t gotta go do something else, no wait i can that fell through, phone rings 5 times during the haircut, talking to the hairdresser in 3 different languages, rush off to the prayer room to meet Andrés (venezuelan guy that met Jesus last year) and Kim from Rolling Stone so that she can interview him over dinner, phone rings right when the food arrives, heather jumps in to translate for the interview, i get back and finish up, we all are amazed by how much God has done in Andrés’s life, ´go pick up people and stuff from prayer room, take them to the hotel, pick up Matt the DJ, take Andrés home to Ibiza town, go for a drink with Matt, go to the airport to pick up a couple people, drop off those guys back in San Antonio, get back home and my head hits the bed at gone 3am. phew. typical day for me in Ibiza.

Someone’s stolen my identity!

Wednesday, July 14th, 2004

Someone has stolen my old hotmail identity. Please block sub_mision@hotmail.com from your hotmail contact list. Dunno how it happened, but someone has swiped it and has already bothered at least 2 people. I’ll try and sort it out, but he may have blocked me from the account.

Feeling a bit under the weather…

Sunday, July 11th, 2004

Blogging is definitely not as easy here as it is at home. Marko is trying to sort out a blogging script at home that will allow me to blog from my mobile phone which will make things loads easier. Photos from my phone straight to my blog. Nice.

I’ve been fighting off a cold for over a week now… It seems to disappear, then threaten to return. Now it is threatening and my stomach is pretty delicate. Ugh. Probably because we went out last night and didn’t get in until 4.30 this morning. I felt OK last night, but terrible this morning when I woke up.

Things are going really well out here in Ibiza. I’ve gotten into a regular rhythm of studying and doing 24-7 admin stuff in the morning and then doing mission stuff with the teams around Ibiza in the afternoon. This has brought my stress level right down. We have a short term team out here that are doing a fantastic job. They’ve been praying, playing and obeying for about 4 days now and have another 10 days left with us. Their passion and enthusiasm is great, a real reminder of why we are here.

I’d better go, tummy is telling me it is time to find a toilet. Ugh.
