ibookA lovely little man from an absolutely fantastic shipping service came to my door this morning. He gave me the most wonderful package from a brilliant mac components supplier. Inside was my spankin’ new SPECTACULAR new power supply. It is way better than the old rubbish one, is humming along just fine and yes, I am a happy boy. Yay!!!

No Computer this weekend

Monday, June 28th, 2004

I’ve been borrowing Mark’s power supply to be able to blog and stuff, but he went back to England (something I plan on writing about next week). I ordered a new power supply, should be here on Monday.

Until then, sorry for the lack of bloggage.

Computer Trouble

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2004

power_adapterA few days ago, part of my iBook’s power adapter broke off (it’s a bit inside the lit up plug in thingey on the picture). It kept working, so like a typical guy I just plowed on through life waiting until something really stops working. Well, after a weekend at Jesús & Rachel’s (where it didn’t want to work for a bit, but a quick jiggle got it going again) it has finally given up the ghost. At least it’s just a power supply and nothing else. I took the computer and power supply into a service shop on the other side of town and the technician marvelled at my ability to break things. He found the way in which the power supply had been broken pretty impressive.

I think God must have given me this penchant for breaking expensive things to remind me that my home is not in this world, hold “things” loosely, etc. Ho Hum…

For those of you who pray, we could really use another computer at some point. The desktop that Heather has been using for the past couple of years is getting pretty out of date. A lot of the stuff that she would like to be able to do with it, she can’t because it is simply too slow to run the software necessary. Said iBook should be good for a bit longer, but it is showing real signs of slowing down. It is also a bit worse for wear as I travel a lot with it and it has picked up some dings.

I wish I didn’t care about football…

ikerI can’t explain how terrible I felt last night during and after Spain’s Group A game against Portugal. We lost 1-0 and are now out of the competition.

If we were just a bad team, then I wouldn’t be that disappointed. But as far as I can see, we have (ahem, had) the most talented team in the tournament. There is just no reason that we should have lost to Portugal, drawn with Greece or be leaving the tournament after having scored just 2 goals. It is a real disgrace. I dunno if it was the manager, the long professional football season, or what. But it just doesn’t feel right.

The only good thing about the entire fiasco is that friends from all over Europe sent me consoling texts last night. I am now trying desperately to feel French. It isn’t working too well. I suppose this is part of the price of trying to be an encarnational missionary. You suffer with your people.

Back from Portugal…

Saturday, June 19th, 2004

francegame We arrived back from Portugal yesterday night. We were tired, a bit sunburnt, but happy with the trip. France tied with Croatia, didn’t play the best game ever, but it was totally worth it. We had such a blast just being at the game. The Croatian fans were fantastic, singing and cheering to whole game. I think 75% of them were completely drunk, but I think they had a pretty good time.

We also saw Zidane give what I would say is the most fantastic display of skill ever to be seen in the history of football. Henry hit a corner in toward the end of the game from the side of the stadium where we were sitting. Zidane saw it flying in, lined up like he was going to head it. He ended up doing a no look heel-pass that floated up over the Croatian defense and connected with Lilian Thuram who headed the ball over the goal, just skimming the crossbar. Unbelievable.

We’re at Jesús & Rachel’s this weekend just chillin’ and barbecuing.

Off to Portugal…

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

estadioWe’re headed to Portugal tomorrow morning early. We were gonna go today, but it didn’t quite work out. I hadn’t had enough time to get some 24-7 stuff done and I… didn’t get time to pack.

Still wondering if my Dad and I will end up in the midst of a bunch of Croatian thugs at the game… Hopefully you’ll hear from me at the weekend! The picture is of the stadium that we’ll be seeing the game at on Thursday.

I’ve also gotta get some studying done while we’re away. Pray I’ll have the will power to do it.

My back has been feeling better, I hope I’ll be able to make it!!!
